Experience the uniqueness of Thompson's Hut. Built in the early 1900's to shelter cattlemen on the Snowy Plains, the Hut has had a sensitive restoration to retain its original essence while adding a few modern comforts.

Your cozy cabin has two vintage chairs facing the wood-fire for great story telling. Snuggle up in the Queen bed with lovely soft European linen & electric blanket, or relax with a book at the window warmed by morning sun.

Being one large room, a privacy curtain separates the living area from new bathroom with composting toilet partitioned off in the corner and a deep claw-foot bath where you can soak with Hunter Lab bath salts.

The well equipped kitchen has a portable induction cooktop and electric frypan. While there is no oven or microwave you can try slow cooking on the wood-fire (using only the cast-iron cookware on the cooking stones please... and please don't leave cooking unattended or leave pots on the fireplace when not in use).

We believe in drinking good wine and whisky with great friends from beautiful glassware and trust you will enjoy this too. We stock a basic pantry, which includes: ground coffee beans from EmMac; blackTea from Mayde; hot chocolate & marshmallows from Grounded Pleasures; extra Virgin olive oil; and salt & pepper.

The electric heater keeps the Hut toasty warm. The wood fire is very efficient - you'll be too hot if not careful! Firewood is plentiful, along with kindling, firelighters, matches and even an axe you feel the need to chop more wood - it's very therapeutic! While have provided extra blankets, please be sure to pack enough warm clothing if you are planning to stay through the cooler months.

There is free WiFi with Starlink, though phone reception is limited and there is no television.

We strive for Thompson's Hut to be as sustainable as possible and use Koala Eco products. We've installed a composting toilet, which is easy to use, works great, and does not smell. Full instructions are in our House Manual after booking.

When staying at Thompson's Hut you will have access to its 'home paddock' and are welcome to explore the 55 acre property at your own risk. We ask that you shut gates, do not touch farm equipment, or enter the shearing shed. Please exercise caution at all times, especially around barbed wire fences and on uneven ground, and do not approach farm animals.

We are available via sms and have a housekeeper to help resolve any onsite issues we cannot fix over the phone.

It is recommended guests have travel insurance. Though rare, during winter months, roads can close temporarily due to snow or ice and disrupt travel plans. We don't issue refunds for matters outside our control.

We dearly look forward to hosting you at this special property.
